peckvonhartel joins Toga Group in celebrating the opening of the recently refurbished boutique heritage-listed Hotel Kurrajong Canberra. Officially launched by The Hon Tony Abbott MP on 11th February 2015, the Hotel Kurrajong Canberra represents a historic icon in the Nation’s Capital. Built in 1926 by the Commonwealth’s chief architect John Murdoch, it was originally designed as dormitory style accommodation housing the first administrative and political staff to move to the new capital city. After undergoing numerous renovations and conversions, the run down Hotel Kurrajong was bought by a joint venture; hotel group Toga Far East Hotels (TFE) and NRMA in 2013, which began the start of an ambitious refurbishment and redesign. peckvonhartel successfully completed the refurbishment and restoration of the hotel and its facilities, working collaboratively with consultants and stakeholders to overcome the complexities of heritage constraints. The result sees the hotel’s original grandeur reinstated with 21st century comforts carefully incorporated while retaining many of its finest historic architectural features.
