role Interior Design client American Apparel value $500,000 area 490m² completion date March 2008
peckvonhartel completed the interior fitout of a retail-clothing store for American Apparel. A leading US domestic manufacturer and retailer of casual fashion basics, American Apparel have expanded globally and identified their first Australian store at a prominent retail shopping strip in Chapel Street, Prahran.
peckvonhartel were appointed to develop the design, issue documents for a construction management tender, appoint the head contractor, prepare contract documentation and administer the construction contract.
Much research and discussion was involved in determining American Apparel's vision, cultural requirements and to interpret the operational functions of the tenancy. Due to the client being located in the United States, much of the scope of work involved identifying and relaying to the client the opportunities and constraints of the site and relating the international brand to the Australian context. The equipment, furnishing, finishes and fittings and colour schemes had been established during the process of the international rollout of the stores. peckvonhartel were required to source and establish the local availability and lead times of products and signage, and assist in the resolution of the design and construction to meet Australian planning authorities and Building Codes.
