peckvonhartel was engaged by Built on behalf of the Australian War Memorial (AWM) to undertake the design and documentation of a new purpose-built film studio, control room and associated support rooms within the Bean Building at the Australian War Memorial.

An accelerated procurement programme required the rapid development of highly technical documentation, fully coordinated with the work of the specialist consultants in a very short time period with a high degree of development. Acoustic considerations were of particular importance, as this would play a major role in the overall success of the new facility. There were a number of additional inputs to be integrated into the documentation package, including return briefs and technical design reports supplied by AWM stakeholders.

The construction documentation package was delivered within a three and a half week period from the initial project start-up meeting. Relevant experience with similar projects allowed peckvonhartel to generate this package efficiently, allowing time for multiple reviews from various stakeholders, ensuring the final product was fit for purpose. Due to the quality of the output, involvement post documentation delivery was minimal, with only a single, minor Request for Information (RFI) issued by the construction contractor during the construction period.

peckvonhartel’s previous experience with acoustically-sensitive, technology-based facilities was effortlessly translated to the film studio project, allowing the successful integration of a multitude of project inputs into a documentation package suitable for construction within a tight timeframe. Both the Project Manager and the end users praised the peckvonhartel performance and the end result has been a great success for the Australian War Memorial.
