Commonwealth Superannuation Corporation, Canberra City ACT

role interior design value confidential area 7,300m² completed date February 2018 client MSP Projects

peckvonhartel were engaged by MSP Projects to design and deliver the new Commonwealth Superannuation Corporation (CSC) fitout in Canberra. The design consolidates CSC’s existing Canberra offices into a single purpose built fitout in the Canberra CBD.

The 7,300m2 open plan office will accommodate 500 staff over 6 floors. The design focuses on delivering a cutting edge and cost effective premium work environment promoting wellness and collaboration. The design features a variety of strategically positioned collaborative meeting spaces, staff kitchen/breakout facilities and two multipurpose carers/mothers/first aid/prayer rooms. The ground floor reception and security area is complete with access control gates and a new shopfront for customer interaction.

A major design consideration was to ensure future flexibility to adapt the tenancy in a cost effective way without requiring major alterations. This provision for future flexibility is achieved through the use of multipurpose and adaptable spaces. Manual sliding screens to collaborative spaces ensures flexibility and visual privacy without disconnecting staff from the surrounding space. Particular attention to design detail is evident in the circular shape of push door and joinery door handles. This circle shape is visible across the entire fitout, from the locker handles, feature wall lights and patterning in the workstation screens.

The finishes to the office are light, neutral and clean with a splash of colour in signature items such as light fittings and cushions. In contrast the shopfront is designed to nurture a sense of warmth and tranquillity with dark tones, stone and timber, making members feel at ease as if they were in their own home.

The design was conveyed to CSC using a 3D walkthrough, video rendering and CGI still images, produced by Enscape from the peckvonhartel Revit model.
