peckvonhartel were engaged by the NSW Government Trade and Investment department to provide interior design services for the consolidation of Destination NSW’s (DSNW) team into a prominent harbour side tenancy. Key drivers for the relocation were to improve operating efficiencies, to save money by avoiding duplication of facilities and to create a more effective use of space.

DNSW focusses on driving tourism and acquiring sporting and cultural events for Sydney and Regional NSW. For this reason the client wanted the new tenancy to showcase the harbour in their fitout as the principal attraction in NSW.

After extensive client consultation and stakeholder workshops a planning option was derived that centres the front of house meeting areas and café around the large balcony located on level two. This concept provides a direct visual connection to the harbour and reinforces the sites geographical location.

The decision was made to reduce the number of offices and staff operational space to fit within the government target of 13.0m² per person. This was achieved by utilising a compact bench style workstation system. The system allows teams to contract and expand giving the client an agile workplace that can respond to changing staff numbers.

To showcase the NSW design community, peckvonhartel specified, where possible, local furniture, finishes and fittings. These key features included a sandstone clad reception desk, reception furniture pieces from up and coming Sydney designers and feature lighting from a local University of Technology Sydney graduate.
