peckvonhartel were engaged by Quintessential Equity on behalf of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) for their Diplomatic Academy fitout in Canberra.

The Diplomatic Academy aims to become a recognised centre of diplomatic excellence for learning and development. Provided by DFAT and offered to the wider Australian Public Service (APS) and regional diplomatic services, the training provided will allow APS staff to strengthen their professional skills, relevant functional capabilities, enhance foreign language skills and cultural appreciation.

DFAT expanded to a new site to combine the Diplomatic training facilities into one purpose built site. The facility includes ten training rooms, 28 language tutorial rooms, a department library with specialty signage and a variety of quiet and collaborative spaces.

Acoustics were a vital aspect of this project and were considered throughout the design, construction and finishes selection. A combination of structural and surface treatments was used to achieve a high acoustic standard.

Flexible spaces were achieved through the use of operable walls and glass stackable panels to subdivide and expand areas throughout the fitout. This ensured any number of users could be accommodated in suitable rooms.

The peckvonhartel team worked closely with the engineers (WSP), construction team (AMA) and project managers (JLL) to provide a high quality project on time and on budget.
