peckvonhartel was appointed by Project Coordination to carry out the architectural and interior design component of the refurbishment works for Gilmore Primary School. This includes both interior and exterior refurbishment to the Library, Learning Units, and Toilet Blocks; as well as the conversion of a learning unit into a performance hall.

The library refurbishment brief was to make the space more functional to overcome the limitations of existing space over several levels; to solve this issue the floor was filled in to create one large space; while finishes were used to create a fun, visually inspiring learning area.

The new performance hall was created from an existing learning unit by removing all interior walls and installing a large glazed bi-fold door system that can be opened fully to allow external seating to view the stage area. This allows a greater flexibility for the school performance space.

The present learning units required more space and light; to achieve this, an existing wall was additional glazing installed to create a central gathering area that is integral to the schools teaching requirements. The existing colour scheme was removed and replaced by a light and bright design to create a harmonious yet creative learning environment.
