Long Bay Forensic Hospital Long Bay NSW

role Architecture, Interior Design value $80 million area 1,300m² completion date December 2005

peckvonhartel worked as part of the Australasian Health Services consortium, with Thiess, Transfield and Westpac, on the PPP bid for the construction of a new 135 bed Forensic Hospital adjacent to Long Bay Correctional Centre. As one of three consortia bidding for the project considerable concept design work was completed . The consortia bid was unsuccessful.

The project is being developed through a public-private partnership, a relatively new initiative in project delivery for the New South Wales Government. It is peckvonhartel's fourth PPP experience, and it's first with Westpac as lead financier.

The new forensic hospital will be built on the site of the current prison hospital; the land will be transferred to NSW Health and the facility will be operated by Justice Health on behalf of NSW Health. It will be a maximum secure facility and will be a significant addition to the NSW network of maximum, medium and minimum psychiatric hospitals.
