Minter Ellison Building National Circuit, Forrest, ACT

role Architecture value $32 million (base building) area 14,000m² completion date September 2002

The Minter Ellison Building is located in the Parliamentary precinct of Forrest, Canberra at the corner of Sydney Avenue and National Circuit. peckvonhartel were commissioned by Baulderstone Hornibrook (on behalf of the Australian Trucking Association) for the design development and contract documentation phases of the project.

The design solution was very much informed by the requirements of the local planning authority. In form, the building is relatively orthodox consisting of masonry and glazed façades dominated by a terracotta tiled roof, pitched at an angle of 30 degrees to match the roofline of the precinct. Other design parameters included glazing reflectivity controls and the requirement that all glazing be contained within a masonry surround.

Functionally, the building consists of underground car parking for 280 cars over two levels and commercial office space over four levels, each level approximately 3,300m² in area.
