peckvonhartel, through Senior Principal Yvonne von Hartel, have provided Design Advisory services to Infrastructure New South Wales for the design of the new Sydney International Convention, Exhibition and Entertainment Centre.

Yvonne has advised on all design aspects of the PPP project whose goals are to deliver world-class core functions of convention, exhibition and entertainment facilities that exceed the expectations of domestic and international visitors; and to reaffirm Darling Harbour as Australia’s premier gathering place by creating an exciting, active and vibrant precinct that brings delight to visitors and Sydney-siders alike.

The design requirements of the project were described by a detailed brief and by specific urban design guidelines for the project, which were used to evaluate the bids received. These Urban Design Guidelines provide a framework for the realisation of the Project Vision and illustrate and describe the preferred character and nature of the new Precinct.

Following an extensive evaluation process, the Destination Sydney Consortia, were selected as the preferred proponent for the development of 40,000m² exhibition space, an 8,000 person red carpet entertainment space and a plenary convention capacity accommodate 12,500 people.

The selected proposal comprises two core elements: the convention, exhibition and entertainment precinct and a new southern neighborhood and vibrant community hub (‘The Haymarket’). These two core elements will be linked together via a new integrated public realm.

As a member of the project Design Review Panel Yvonne is involved in regular reviews of the design of the project from design development through project implementation.
