The American Club Level 14, 131 Macquarie St, Sydney NSW

role Interior Design value $1.9 million area 880m² completion date April 2010 client The American Club

The American Club is one of the few historic business and social clubs remaining in Sydney. The Club engaged peckvonhartel to refurbish their premises at Hudson House, a premier commercial building in Sydney CBD that offers amazing Harbour and Botanic Garden views.

The Project Brief was to create a space that enabled the American Club to maintain the high standards and array of services that the Club prides itself on while at the same time reduce the floor area occupied from three floors to one.

The core design challenge for the team was to meet the needs of the client within the new compact floor plan. This was achieved through smart design; incorporating a series of acoustic operable walls and mobile furniture solutions. At the same time the designers worked to ensure they maximised the inherent benefits of a space that provides a floor to ceiling glass façade, which hosts sweeping views to the east over the adjacent botanical gardens and Woolloomooloo beyond.

The American Club space includes a lounge and bar area, two dining areas, and a business centre - all of which have been designed by peckvonhartel.
