people Yvonne von Hartel AM | Founding Principal Yvonne von Hartel AM is a Founding Principal of the award-winning national architectural and urban design practice, peckvonhartel. Yvonne has practiced as an architect for 49 years, working on Australia’s largest and most significant infrastructure projects. Yvonne is currently a Director of the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Trust and Chair of its Capital Works Committee, a Council member of La Trobe University Council and a member of its Infrastructure and Estates Planning Committee, a Commissioner of the Victorian Building Authority, a Director of the Queen Victoria Market Pty Ltd, a Director of the University of Wollongong, SMART Infrastructure Advisory Council, and is the Independent Specialist Advisor – Design for the Sydney International Convention, Exhibition and Entertainment Precinct, Design Advisor for the Capital Metro Project Canberra and a member of the Design Review Panel for WestConnex for the Sydney Motorway Corporation. She has served as Chair of the Sustainability in Buildings Standards Coordination Group of Standards Australia, as inaugural chair of the Victorian Design Advisory Council, and as a Director of the national Tourism and Transport Forum. During her career, Yvonne has taught both full time and part time at the School of Architecture at the University of Melbourne. In 2007, Yvonne was awarded a Member of the Order of Australia for ‘services to architecture, design and building through involvement with a range of professional organisations, to the promotion of women in business, and to the community’. Yvonne graduated from the University of Melbourne with Honours in Architecture and is a Life Fellow of the Australian Institute of Architects (LFAIA). She has completed the Executive Management Program at the Melbourne Business School. Robert Peck AM | Founding Principal Robert is a founding Principal of peckvonhartel with over 40 years experience in the architectural profession and in the building industry Nationally and in South East Asia. He holds a number of positions in the building industry and is the current President of the Australian Association of Consulting Architects. He is a founding Director of Japara Aged Care and is Chair at Ivvy, a leading event and booking software business. He is renowned for his relationships with, and knowledge of, the construction, finance, and development industries. In June 1997, Robert was awarded an Order of Australia for ‘services to the Practice of Architecture, Urban Design and Development particularly through statutory and regulatory authorities.’ Robert is a Life Fellow of the Royal Australian Institute of Architects. Rachel Peck | Principal Since 2005 Rachel has fostered peckvonhartel’s professional network, creating opportunities for partnerships and harnessing the practice’s potential to be an agent of positive urban change. A distinguished industry leader, Rachel is often sought out for her development expertise and commercial acumen. She firmly understands the economic drivers to large scale projects and is often called on to guide a project framework that aligns business outcomes to innovative design solutions. Striking the perfect equilibrium between government sector requirements and commercial offerings, Rachel is invaluable to large scale accommodation and precinct projects; with award winning projects such as Canberra’s 4 National Circuit and Geelong’s 1 Malop Street. Rachel holds numerous corporate leadership roles across the public and private sector including her current appointment to the Board of Icon Water, and her recent tenure on the Interim Board of the Arboretum and as Chair of the Canberra Business Chamber Planning and Infrastructure Committee. Marten Peck | Principal With a career founded in property development, construction and project management, Marten brings a unique perspective and critical eye to many of peckvonhartel’s large scale development projects. His strength is in predevelopment strategy and feasibility, often partnering with developers and collaborating with architects at the formative stages of our projects to manage risk and maximise the commercial opportunity. With over 20 years in the industry, Marten draws on his deep network of design and industry professionals to curate dynamic project teams, providing critical insights to global benchmarking in architecture, sustainability and urban response to drive the best economic, social and commercial objectives of each project. For the immediate future, his focus is also to ensure the growth of the practice, evolving peckvonhartel’s capability and advancing our market reach. Rebecca Daff | National Studio Leader Rebecca’s tenacity to create tangible value for clients has seen her work with Australia’s most iconic brands, championing innovative shifts in retail and workplace design thinking for the likes of Suncorp, Telstra, ANZ, First State Super, and across major aviation environments on the eastern seaboard. As a disciplined project director with over 20 years in the industry, Rebecca’s approach to transparent dialogue and quality process empowers her clients through design. She brings a unique aptitude for assimilating multiple stakeholder agendas – creating a powerfully captivating and insightful vision for projects and the commitment to realise them to finality. As the practice’s National Studio Leader, Rebecca carries the practice’s legacy of delivering projects that set new benchmarks across the government and commercial sectors. At a practice management and business development level, Rebecca’s focus is on ensuring the narrative and value of our projects is universally understood. Tim Giles | National Design Director Critical thinker, storyteller and innovator, Tim Giles leads the design at peckvonhartel. With a distinctive approach formulated over his 20 years’ in the design industry, Tim has an uncanny ability to seek out his clients’ core business challenges and use design as a business tool to unlock potential, and shift barriers to better business outcomes. His expertise sits across brand, experience and human scale spaces, exemplified in his award winning work for Sydney, Melbourne and Gold Coast Airports, Apple, and Earnst & Young. Tim’s forte is working with businesses looking to shift to new models of working that align their unique organizational model. Infallible in thinking and nuanced in approach, his experience in retail and workplace environments has been pivotal in peckvonhartel’s ability to reposition assets, create dynamic precincts, and attract long term tenants. Petar Danicic | Senior Architect With a gift for communicating the potential of a site through sketch, design architect Petar Danicic is often found immersed in the early stages of projects; exploring conceptual possibilities of the architecture, and its ability to integrate and complement the existing urban fabric. His forte is creating a narrative around new architectural ideas, particularly across greenfield sites to realise a site’s highest and best use. Petar is influenced by his travels and design experiences in London, Dubai, Tokyo, Oman and Ho Chi Minh City, and following a substantial career in large scale firms, and later running his own architectural practice. His passion lies in mentoring the next generation of architects, unleashing creativity and enthusiasm for the design response and its impact and influence on human experience.
