CGI Australia Office Fitout, Melbourne

CGI is a global IT and business process services provider delivering high-quality business consulting, systems integration and outsourcing services. peckvonhartel was engaged by the project manager, Colliers, to design, document and deliver CGI’s office accommodation in Melbourne.

peckvonhartel was required to accommodate the existing 75 employees and cater for changes in staff and casual employees as well as the potential for future staff growth. peckvonhartel developed several collaborative working spaces, as well as hot-desking, to enable the employees to work flexibly and collaboratively.

The layout flows around the central core of the building and provides the best filtration of natural light, with the workstations located on the external façade which faces the MCG and AMMI park sporting stadiums. This orientation also allowed for all built-up areas, including meeting and server rooms, to be located against the core. CGI also works on highly sensitive equipment, so there was a need for a secure workshop area. The colour palette through the fit-out was kept neutral with hints of bronze and brass to accentuate the key front of house areas. Red is a prominent corporate colour and is used in the signage throughout.

A key challenge was working on the project concurrently with the base building upgrade. The building is currently undergoing a total upgrade which meant obtaining accurate site information was difficult. The ability to work on multiple stages of the project simultaneously was a key strength for the whole team. Due to an incredibly tight program, both in design and construction, we were required to work on the briefing and concept stage while documenting and preparing detail and tender drawings in order to meet the client’s requirement to relocate at the end of May 2017.

CGI’s Director, Pete Smith said “the office has been acknowledged by our members as a significant step forward in enhancing morale, cultural change, and being an environment that members enjoy working in, [peckvonhartel’s advice and expertise was integral to the final design solution which] is both functional and aesthetic.”
