Department of Defence, Symonston ACT

peckvonhartel were engaged by DTZ on behalf of the Department of Defence to provide full design services for the fit-out and building upgrade for the Department of Defence Army Land Network Integration Centre (LNIC). The project involved the design and construction of tenancy alterations within an existing tenancy including boardroom, offices, workshop and warehouse facilities.

As lead consultant, peckvonhartel was required to engage and coordinate all specialist sub-consultants covering six disciplines to provide a cohesive and fully integrated design solution to serve the end-user requirements. This required highly developed management and communication skills, as well as significant interdisciplinary knowledge to coordinate and resolve design items across all fields.

There were many inherent issues involved in the conversion of an existing single storey, non-secure building with minimal access to natural light into a fit-for-purpose benchmark facility that combined high-level technology, modern security and acoustics within a comfortable office environment. These elements were resolved with a high level of success providing the Department of Defence with a fit-out that responded well to all of the requirements for the facility.
