473 Bourke Street was constructed in 1970 for the Eagle Star Insurance Company as their Headquarter Office. The architects were Yuncken Freeman, a prominent architectural firm of the time from which peckvonhartel is derived. The building was included on the Victorian Heritage Register in 1999 as one of the finest examples of the curtain wall phase of Australian commercial architecture.

Purchased in 1999, peckvonhartel were engaged by the new Building Owner to refurbish the interior to bring it into the line with modern leasing criteria. As part of the new image, peckvonhartel designed a new foyer featuring a striking green resin neon backlit illuminated wall that derives its modularity from the exterior design of the building. The new foyer repositioned the building image and attracted a significant tenant to lease the entire building.
