peckvonhartel were engaged by Construction Control to design Access Canberra’s new fitout in Woden, ACT. The benchmark facility accommodates approximately 350 Access Canberra staff and will allow them to provide a better service to the community.
The design brief included creating a new and innovative fit for purpose Activity Based Working environment that provides greater flexibility, enhances collaboration, supports innovation, drives a change in work behaviours and embeds a new collaborative social culture. Access Canberra also wanted to create a place where staff enjoy coming to work in an environment with a strong connection to the community.
A variety spaces are included in the fitout, including open plan work space, open and enclosed collaborative spaces and breakout spaces for socialising, work, rest and play. These include open plan meeting “pods”, standing height meeting tables, a ping pong table which doubles as a meeting table, “The Diner” which provides booth seating, and “The Stadium”, a central social hub comprising tiered grandstand seating for collaboration, presentations and meetings. The use of innovative technology also ensures that staff are not restricted to their desks, enabling greater flexibility for teams to adapt to evolving business requirements, and fosters healthy choices in the workspace.
Other unique requirements include a shopfront, training facilities and project rooms. The overall emphasises was to create a modern design that reflected the integration of seven pre-existing Government agencies into one tenancy as well as the unique vibrant culture and vision of Access Canberra.
The fit out has minimal built areas, instead utilising loose furniture, acoustic screens and creative ceiling treatments to visually break up the space and to minimise noise transfer. This also allows for cost effective flexibility moving forward; the openness of the space helps staff feel engaged and connected.
