The 3,000m² workplace interior fit-out for Australian Communication and Media Authority (ACMA) spans over two floor levels of Melbourne Central Tower. The clients brief sought a contemporary design that facilitated transparency, connectivity and collaboration, for both staff and visitors. Part of the client’s vision for the project was to reinforce their brand and corporate identity.
The brief and vision informed an overall concept of “convergence”, relating directly to ACMA’s brand: “converge through first principles thinking”. This concept guided the design in terms of overall configuration of the space, way-finding and an overall graphic approach to the fit-out.
Functionally, the workplace is configured in several zones including entry reception areas, executive suites, open workspaces, research, testing and gathering spaces. The design solution incorporates a feature stair that connects both floor levels. Centrally located within the floor plan, the stair is highlighted by a vibrant, multi-coloured “spine”; the approach and graphic based on ACMA’s branding. The “spine” comprises bright, vertically expressed feature paint to several walls, as well as a highlight feature to joinery. The “spine” unites the centralised collaboration areas including shared spaces, meeting rooms, breakout facilities and the client welcome zone.
