Balmoral Grove is a unique aged care and retirement living village on the outskirts of Geelong, Victoria. Balmoral Grove provides the ideal environment for “ageing in place”. The new complex provides 31 modern independent living units in a landscaped environment adjacent to an existing 120 bed aged care hostel.
Due to the ongoing operation of the facility during the development, construction work was completed in stages. Stage 1 involved the addition of a 50 low and high-care bed extension to the existing hostel. Stage 2 saw the development of 20 independent living units and stage 3 was the final stage of an additional 11 independent living units and a redevelopment of the club house and site landscaping.
The independent living unit development provides six different designs that have distinct design features such as cathedral ceilings, stacked stone facades and larger gardens to cater for different tastes and requirements. Materials selected are low maintenance and emphasise the ‘homely’ feel that the client wished to provide.
All of the units are sensitively sited to allow safe pedestrian access to community facilities. Each unit has a private courtyard and access to a large communal garden. The unit design is focused on providing a safe and private environment for residents within a cohesive streetscape and distinctive community setting.
