peckvonhartel were engaged as principal consultant to design and document the revitalisation of the Horrie Watson pavilion for the City of Boroondara. The building is located within Deepdene Park, Balwyn and is bound on one side by a sporting field, which provides the building’s main frontage and aspect.

The design is a simple sustainable solution that seeks to utilise and refresh as much of the existing building as possible whilst creating a contemporary extension that is designed to complement the existing brick structure, whilst being completely different in material, geometry and use.

The City of Boroondara is undertaking a major regeneration of a number of existing community facilities to increase their flexibility and patronage. peckvonhartel have been a part of this upgrade project, and the Horrie Watson pavilion is the culmination of a number of these smaller projects.

This project required the coordination of a number of different council and community stakeholders and dealt with some difficulties with latent conditions within the existing building. The final product, however, saw the design achieved on budget and within the time requirements of the council and community users.
