Having completed previous work for Qantas at the former Canberra Airport terminal, peckvonhartel was appointed the design consultant for new works within the new Multi User International Terminal, including the implementation of Qantas’ new state of the art “Next Generation” Check-in system.
The works comprised fitouts of all non-lounge areas, including front-of-house customer service and ticketing counters, administrative office areas, and airside operational areas.
The brief called for a design solution to maximise operational efficiency, reinforce the Qantas brand and maintain a high level of security between the public and operational areas. The design successfully incorporates all functional requirements while emphasising the iconic brand.
The upgrade of the existing check-in kiosks includes the replacement of check-in counters with new “bag drop” modules, and the integration of new “Q-card readers” and other proprietary components integral to the “Next Generation” Check-in system.
peckvonhartel’s ability to work within the complex stakeholder environment of an operating multi-user facility allowed the project to seamlessly incorporate security, information technology, ticketing facilities and airside operations and ultimately deliver a successful product for Qantas.
