tribute boxing gym

In January this year Tribute Boxing Gym moved into their new space in the Undercroft of Collins Square in the Melbourne Docklands. peckvonhartel were commissioned by Walker Corporation, on behalf of Tribute Gym, to reinvigorate the previously unused zone beneath Collins Street Bridge and deliver a functional training space offering a fresh twist on the stereotypical boxing gym.

The design compliments the look and feel of Tribute’s original gym in Abbotsford, incorporating vintage elements inspired by the industrial boxing gyms of London and the US. At the centre of the design sits a bespoke boxing ring which seemingly floats above the ground, achieved through the use of a recessed continuous mirror. A structural steel clamp system allows the lighting and services to hang throughout the space without any negative effect on the Collins Street bridge above.

The completion of the space marks the final project of a three stage upgrade to the Collins Street Undercroft. The upgrade included an End of Trip facility, Good Cycles bike shed and Tribute Boxing Gym; all three designed and delivered by peckvonhartel.
