Worksafe Victoria Platinum WELL Certification

peckvonhartel are proud to announce that WorkSafe Victoria’s new headquarters, 1 Malop Street is the first building in Australia to receive a WELL Platinum Rating for both categories, Core & Shell, and Interiors (the second globally). Awarded by the International WELL Building Institute, the certification represents the next evolution in sustainable design.

To achieve the certification, peckvonhartel worked closely with Built and the ESD engineering consultant, Aurecon, who managed the WELL certification process. WELL rates buildings on the extent to which they support the health and wellbeing of their occupants by assessing the impact of air and water quality, nourishment, light, fitness and comfort. This represents the very core objectives behind WorkSafe’s imperatives, of Health and Wellbeing, Sustainability, Innovation, Flexibility and Adaptability, Safety and Inclusiveness.

peckvonhartel collaborated with developers, Quintessential Equity, to design 1 Malop St to be a world-class office building with market-leading environmental credentials and amazing tenant amenity. The building has a range of features to improve the environment of its occupants, such as low toxicity finishes, high grade air filters and lighting that minimizes disruption to the body’s circadian rhythm and avoids eyestrain and associated headaches. Lockers and bike storage encourage active commuting, while sit-stand desks and activity incentive programs will also be offered to staff. The building is designed to maximise natural light with views over Corio Bay and Johnstone Park, while multiple outdoor areas, including a rooftop terrace, a cafe offering healthy foods and eating areas on each floor are also provided.

The building has also been awarded a 6 Star Green Star Rating with the Green Building Council of Australia and a 5.5 Star NABERS Base Building Energy Rating. The $120 million development also won the backing of Clean Energy Finance Corporation with a construction loan.
